It defines how agents discover available operations, negotiate required context and invoke operations with appropriate error handling, all through one interface, regardless of which ERP or procurement platform sits underneath. 

MCP reduces deployment time for new source-to-pay connections by 60 to 70 percent compared to traditional integration. Traditional integration requires custom adapter code for each system pair. MCP replaces that with a uniform protocol.
